A man is now in critical condition after a shooting occurred early this morning at a motel located near Whitehaven, Memphis, as is reported by local authorities. The incident took place shortly after 3 a.m. at the Budget Host Inn & Suites on Airways Boulevard, according to the FOX13 Memphis. Arriving officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound, who was then promptly transported to Regional One Health for medical care.
Officials have yet to release any information on potential suspects or establish a clear motive behind the shooting. Meanwhile, WREG reports seeing officers concentrating their investigation efforts around a specific hotel room, with its door, closed by officers, revealing several bullet holes. With over 30 calls, including thefts and assaults, responded to by the Memphis Police Department in the 2700 block of Airways Boulevard this year alone, the area is no stranger to criminal incidents, as noted in an interview a nearby resident.
The circumstances that led up to the shooting remain unclear. Memphis police have been working the scene and calling for public assistance in the case. "It was around about three o'clock in the morning and all of a sudden it was like 17 shots," as recounted the same resident to WREG, capturing the surprise and disturbance experienced by those nearby. Officials encourage those with any information to reach out to CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
As the community grapples with the frequency of such events, the condition of the victim remains a key concern. Further information about the victim's identity and the long-term prognosis are still forthcoming, and investigations continue as the Memphis Police Department combats a persistent tide of theft and violent crime in the area. According to the Action News 5, the victim was found in critical condition after the shooting and was immediately attended to by the officers upon discovery.
