A violent confrontation erupted at a Memphis storage facility early Tuesday, where multiple suspects are accused of not only robbing but also shooting a man. According to reports by Action News 5, the Memphis Police were summoned to Storage Locker on Summer Avenue around 1 a.m., where it was found that four suspects had attacked a victim as he opened the front door.
Amidst their demanding of money, the suspects, who struck the man in the head with a pistol, proceeded to shoot him in the leg, as they entered his unit to steal several items. Surveillance footage released by MPD, as detailed by FOX13 Memphis, captured the suspects getting into a car, with one masked individual firing shots in the opposite direction, seemingly indicating an involvement of more than four individuals.
Compounding the gravity of the situation, it was not just one man that was targeted: a couple fell victim to the terrifying ordeal. According to WREG, five suspects—a cohort comprising four men and a woman—confronted a woman and her boyfriend during the assault. The boyfriend, after relinquishing his wallet following the robbers' demands, was both hit in the head and shot in the leg, and his girlfriend was subsequently robbed.
Local business owners have expressed concern that crime is encroaching upon their community. Susan Tanner, owner of Pink Ribbons, witnessed the yellow tape in the parking lot but mistook it for construction tape. "We moved down here from White Station because crime was so bad down there," Tanner told WREG. "It really bothers me that the crime could be moving down this way. There’s no fear of consequences and the judicial system is just going to have to step up and make them pay for their crimes."
The Memphis Police Department continues to investigate this brazen incident and urges anyone with information that could assist to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
