
Last week in Manhattan Beach proved challenging for both residents and the police department dealing with a series of crimes, as reported by the Manhattan Beach Police Department's recently published statistics. From September 5th to September 11th, there were 893 calls for service, leading to 19 arrests and 44 crime reports taken, including incidents of auto theft, theft, and robbery.
Among these incidents, a notable event involved a plain daylight robbery on 6th Street and Manhattan Avenue. The victim was reportedly assaulted and robbed of a necklace by two individuals from a group of five passengers in a black SUV, with the others later joining the assault, according to details released by Manhattan Beach’s official website. This case, alongside another similar robbery on the 1300 block of Parkview Avenue where the victim was pushed and robbed in a parking lot, is still under investigation.
The previous week also saw quick resolutions to some crimes due to MBPD's swift response. A habitual thief was apprehended after attempting to steal merchandise from Target, and another suspect was arrested after stealing a backpack from REI, who according to police records, had a standing felony warrant for his arrest.
In the wake of these episodes of crime, the MBPD emphasized the importance of crime prevention by sharing a list of tips on their website designed to deter residential burglaries, which reaching its citizens through various channels, seeks to tighten the proverbial noose around would-be burglars and safeguard the community against such violations.
