A Mankato public school teacher is facing federal charges for allegedly distributing and receiving child pornography. Daniel John Janke, 54, was indicted on one count of distribution and three counts of receipt of child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger's announcement. Court documents allege that Janke used the Kik messaging app for these illegal activities between October 14, 2023, and January 29, 2024.
Using the chat platform, accusations point to Janke as having sent and received sexually explicit material involving minors. Having made his first appearance in court on August 29, 2024, the investigation that led to Janke's indictment was carried out by the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Polachek leading the prosecution. A reminder issued by the U.S. Attorney’s office emphasizes that an indictment is only an accusation and the accused remains innocent until proven otherwise.
Janke awaits further court proceedings to determine the outcome of these allegations. For further updates on this ongoing case, stay informed through local and federal law enforcement releases.
