The Boulder Police Department has been piecing together the aftermath of a series of hit-and-run collisions that had the unusual conclusion of a pickup truck making an unauthorized entry onto Folsom Field at the University of Colorado Boulder. The series of events began to unfold late Thursday afternoon when calls about erratic driving and collisions began to flood in.
Around 6:45 p.m. on September 12th, Boulder Police received reports of not just one, but several hit-and-run incidents. A blue pickup truck, driven by 48-year-old Karl E. Haglund, was cited as the vehicle in question. According to the City of Boulder, Haglund's driving resulted in damage to another vehicle, various trees, and signs before he continued to evade eyewitnesses and later the police. One witness narrowly avoided being struck by Haglund's vehicle during the chaos.
Law enforcement pursued Haglund but were unable to detain him until he had rammed through a gate and drove onto the field at the University. After the breach of school property and subsequent discussions with police, Haglund surrendered. The Boulder authorities have since charged Haglund with a slew of offenses, including criminal attempt vehicular assault, and reckless endangerment.
Haglund, who hails from Massachusetts, was booked into the Boulder County jail with multiple charges on his docket. These range from vehicular eluding and leaving the scene of a crash to criminal mischief and trespassing. The damage inflicted is estimated between $100,000 and $150,000. Meanwhile, the Boulder Police Department's investigation continues, and they urge anyone with information or anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact Dispatch at 303-441-3333 concerning case 24-9524.
