The County of Maui Department of Planning is setting in motion a quality of life survey, as part of their initiative to better realize the community's perceptions and priorities. Launching this Friday, September 13, the survey will skip over the immediate needs stemming from the past year's August fires and focus on broader quality of life issues and resident satisfaction.
Maui's landscape was affected by the 2023 fires. Moving forward, randomly chosen residents will be notified by email or phone to share their opinions on issues unrelated to the recovery process. However, only 400 residents can participate, and the survey will close once this limit is reached.
A local market research firm, Anthology Research, has been engaged to oversee the survey process, ensuring that opinions are assimilated without bias, with anonymity intact, with individual responses dissolved into the collective. Reinforcing the privacy of the participants, the county promises that no identifiable data will tether back to the voices behind the numbers, as reported by The County of Maui.
The data collected will provide a snapshot of life in Maui and help guide the Planning Department in following the General Plan. This plan covers community development in physical, economic, environmental, and cultural areas. The insights from this survey, though limited to a small group, will help measure the County's progress in these areas.
For Maui residents thirsting for additional details or those simply curious about the methodology and goals of the survey, guidance is available on the Planning Department's website, which offers more insight into how resident feedback will be channeled into better community planning.
