The community is invited to join the century-long tradition and dedication of the County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety as it celebrates a significant milestone with a full day's worth of events this Saturday. The septennial affair, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Maui, 100 Kanaloa Ave., Kahului, will include a parade of vintage fire trucks, helicopters on display, and a myriad of activities designed for Keiki (children), as reported by, County of Maui.
Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Maui Fire Department traces its origins back to 1924, when it started with just a single fire station in Wailuku, since then it expanded over the decades to encompass multiple stations across Maui, as well as Moloka'i and Lāna'i, "We welcome the community to join us in celebrating this milestone," said Fire Chief Brad Ventura in a statement. Attendees can enjoy displays of the department's past, hands-on fire extinguisher training, and a look at modern firefighting equipment. Children will also have the chance to meet the Fire Prevention mascots, according to the County of Maui website.
An opening ceremony will start at 11 a.m. featuring remarks by key figures such as Fire Chief Ventura and Assistant Chief Hanale Lindo; Maui Emergency Management Agency Administrator and retired Fire Battalion Chief Amos Lonokailua-Hewett will also share insights, the full day’s agenda includes a silent auction and live entertainment provided by the firefighters themselves – furthermore, there will be food prepared by these local heroes, a keiki zone, and services for keiki identification.
Attendees can bring a new, unwrapped toy to enter a charity raffle, with the grand prize being a one-night stay in an ocean-view room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. Collected toys will benefit the Boys and Girls Club. The event, supported by local businesses like Pukalani Superette and Dowling Company, Inc.
