A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Henry Ford Health System, Detroit Medical Center, and a Rochester Hills doctor accused of a series of disturbing sex crimes. Dr. Oumair Aejaz, 40, is facing charges for child sexually abusive activity, along with capturing images and videos of nude adults and children without consent, according to CBS News Detroit.
The lawsuits allege that both health systems provided Dr. Aejaz unsupervised access to patients, which enabled him to covertly record and assault countless individuals. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard has stated that the case entails an exceptionally broad spectrum of victims, encompassing all genders and ranging from 2-year-olds to adults. Bouchard emphasized the severity, saying, "This individual potentially is one of the worst I've ever seen," as reported by The Detroit News.
The Henry Ford Health spokesperson stated that the allegations seem to mainly recount information released by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, assuring their cooperation with the investigation but declining to comment further on pending litigation. Sinai-Grace, where Aejaz completed his residency, has not provided a statement regarding the case.
During a press conference, attorney Parker Stinar pointed out that hospitals can no longer claim ignorance when they actively promote their medical services to the public. "Hospitals can no longer escape, saying 'this individual wasn't our employee' when they hold out to the public that 'we have the best physicians and best medical care in our community and in the world,'" Stinar declared, as quoted by WWJ Newsradio. The lawsuits involve two women who were unknowingly recorded: one during her stay for back surgery at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in May 2023, and another at Sinai-Grace during a pregnancy checkup in August 2023.
