As we head into Wednesday, the city is set to experience more cloud coverage with highs topping out near 88 degrees. However, the calm is not to last—come Wednesday night, there's a 50 percent chance of showers, specifically after 1 a.m. "New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible," noted the NWS forecast. The east-southeast wind will persist, maintaining a pace of 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday's forecast is even more tumultuous with showers and potential thunderstorms slated for the afternoon, with "some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall," as per the forecast. An 80 percent chance of precipitation brings a warning of hefty rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches. Winds will sharply increase out of the east-northeast direction, reaching speeds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.
The wet weather is expected to continue into Thursday night, with showers and possible thunderstorms anticipated before 10 p.m., and then again after 1 a.m. "Chance of precipitation is 70%," forecasts the NWS, with new rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. South southeast winds of 5 to 10 mph will escalate, potentially gusting up to 25 mph.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Memphis should brace for additional showers, although with lower chances ranging from 20 to 40 percent from Friday through Monday. Temperatures will generally cool down to the low 70s but rebound by the weekend, touching the 80s mark. So while the chance for rain lingers, the sun hasn't quite said its last word, teasing mostly sunny conditions amidst this temporary spell of tempestuous weather.
