Memphis residents might want to keep their umbrellas close at hand and their outdoor plans flexible over the next week, as the forecast calls for a series of unpredictable weather patterns. According to the National Weather Service's latest update, today could see showers and thunderstorms with a 60 percent chance of precipitation and new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
The erratic climate will continue tonight, albeit with a meager 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 pm. As night sets in, a partly cloudy sky with a low around 69 degrees is expected, with a calm north-northeast wind around 5 mph. Labor Day holiday is shaping up to be sunnier, which might offer a brief respite to those eager to celebrate the long weekend outdoors.
The NWS predicts a mostly sunny Labor Day with a high near 88 degrees, adorned by a comforting north-northeast wind of 5 to 10 mph. As for Monday night, the partial cloudiness will persist, with lows dipping to about 67 degrees paired with a similar breeze intensity as earlier in the day.
The remainder of the week follows a pattern that reflects the uncertainty of the season—partly sunny skies giving way to chances of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the evenings and early mornings. From Tuesday through Thursday, daytime highs will remain in the mid-to-upper 80s, with nighttime lows hovering in the upper 60s to low 70s. Forecasters expect a 40 to 50 percent chance of precipitation during this midweek period.
Looking ahead to Friday, there's a continued 20 percent chance of rain and storms, with daytime conditions leaning more toward sunny, with highs peaking around 84 degrees. Saturday appears to be the light at the end of the tunnel, promising clearer skies and a pleasant high of 81 degrees to top off the week.
