A Miami Beach man is implicated in a serious case of human trafficking and violence, according to police reports. Robert Brown, 37, was apprehended by Miami Beach undercover agents and is now facing multiple felony charges, including human trafficking, deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and cocaine possession. CBS Miami details the arrest occurring Tuesday, with Brown being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correction Center on no bond.
Undercover officers conducting a human trafficking detail discovered an online advertisement for prostitution on Listcrawler, leading them to an apartment and the subsequent arrest of Brown. An undercover officer, having responded to the ad, was met by a woman who offered sex for $200. Following this exchange, detectives made contact with the woman who revealed a harrowing account of living with Brown, who allegedly did not contribute to household expenses but demanded a substantial cut of her earnings from prostitution. It was reported by NBC Miami that the woman met Brown in March after he paid her for sex and never left her residence.
The victim shared with the police that Brown was intertwined with her illicit occupation, posting advertisements online and communicating with clients, yet his presence was more than administrative. According to her statement to detectives, a client's refusal to pay would prompt Brown to make threats, as was the case when he demanded a retrieved payment via CashApp under the threat of contacting the client's family. This intimidation was noted in the police report obtained by NBC Miami.
The woman also recounted instances of physical abuse at the hands of Brown. She supplied detectives with evidence of her injuries, including photographs and videos. In one such instance, she documented Brown chasing her around their home with a large knife and assaulting her, causing significant bruising. These abuses, alongside verbal threats such as "I will end you," were elements of the torment she endured. Such episodes of violence, backed by tangible proof, highlight the dangerous environment she was trapped in, with CBS Miami reporting the sharing of multiple images showing the inflicted injuries.
The victim recalled for detectives how Brown altered the terms of her financial obligation to him, escalating from demanding 20% of her earnings to imposing a flat rate should she make $500 or more. When expressing her desire to stop working, she said that Brown would dismiss her wishes and pressure her to continue, making her feel obligated to work. Brown was in possession of a bag that contained his passport, three glass pipes with a white substance believed to be crack cocaine, when he was taken into custody. The substance, alongside aggressive behavior and exploitation, proposes a control and dependency sculpted by Brown.
