Commissioner Eileen Higgins is spearheading the grand opening of the Downtown Dog Spot, Miami's new playground for dogs, set beneath the First Street Metromover Station. This new dog park, forged through a partnership with various city departments, is ready to welcome dogs of all sizes with its innovative design tailored for canine amusement.
According to an advisory from Miami-Dade County, this new community space aims to swiftly enhance the greenery, public connections and quality of life for those who call District 5 home. The initiative is part of a larger effort by Commissioner Higgins to smartly utilize available spaces and to bring together dogs and their owners in a high-quality, engaging environment, where they can safely socialize, play, and enjoy.
The ribbon-cutting event, open to all, is set tomorrow from noon to 2 p.m. Commissioner Higgins, along with Eulois Cleckley, Director and CEO of the Department of Transportation and Public Works, Maria Nardi from Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, and Christina Crespi of the Miami DDA, will be in attendance to unveil this new chapter for Downtown Miami's pet-loving community.
The Downtown Dog Spot is a testament to the ingenuity of city planning, creating a lively corner for dogs and humans beneath the Metromover. Different play areas are designed to easily accommodate both small and large breeds, allowing pets to safely frolic regardless of stature. This unique amenity aims to become a frequented spot, as a marker of community ingenuity.
