A 23-year-old man from Norway, Michigan, has been extradited from California and is facing serious charges related to the alleged sexual assault of two minors. Trentin McWilliams stood before a judge in the 95B District Court in Iron Mountain on Wednesday, where he was arraigned on seven felony counts, as per reports from Upper Michigan’s Source.
Michigan's Attorney General's office detailed that McWilliams is accused of assaulting a child at a relative's residence in 2018. He faces charges, which were filed this July, that includes one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and one count of accosting a child for immoral purposes. Additionally, he was charged in February by the Dickinson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office with three counts of third-degree, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct for a separate incident involving a 14-year-old girl in October 2022, as stated by a press release from the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
The extradition was made possible by Operation Survivor Justice, a strategic initiative funded with a $1 million state appropriation aimed at addressing fugitive sexual assault offenders. “Operation Survivor Justice is already having a profound impact across Michigan and the nation,” remarked Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. “Through our partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service, we’ve successfully removed a number of individuals accused of sexual assault from their communities, ensuring they face their charges in court.” This statement was obtained by Michigan’s Attorney General’s office.
Following his arraignment, the next legal proceeding for McWilliams is slated for October 2 at 11:30 a.m., where he will appear before Judge Julie Lacost at the aforementioned district court.
