A Minneapolis individual, identified as Brandon Lee Tahahwah, has entered a guilty plea to the charge of unlawfully possessing a machine gun, an announcement came from United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger yesterday.

As detailed by official court documents, the incident traces back to last year, on the 17th of October, when Minneapolis Police were called to a scene where two men were reported to be armed at the corner of 17th Avenue South and Cedar Avenue. While attempting to corral the individuals, police pursued Tahahwah who decided to take flight. Police say, a black handgun was visible in his grasp, which upon his apprehension, was found to be modified with an auto sear – an illegal device that transforms a semiautomatic firearm into an automatic weapon.

During a court session hosted by Judge Jeffrey M. Bryan at the U.S. District Court, Tahahwah conceded to the possession of a machine gun charge. The courts are yet to schedule a date for the sentencing hearing.

According to a statement from the Department of Justice, the case surfaced from the collaborative investigation efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Minneapolis Police Department. Pursuing the case is Assistant U.S. Attorney David P. Steinkamp.
