A correctional officer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Faribault, Lindsey Melissa Adams, 43, of Farmington, faces charges of methamphetamine possession and introducing contraband into a correctional institution, according to Rice County Minnesota. Adams was implicated in a scheme to deliver drugs to an inmate, with the plot being foiled by the Department of Corrections Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and Faribault Police Department (FPD) on September 3rd.

The OSI, constructing the case piece by piece, apprehended Adams during a planned exchange of contraband in the prison gym, initially denying involvement Adams later revealed to OSI investigators that she had been approached by a man at a convenience store and subsequently agreed to smuggle items for him, not knowing that her actions had the potential to land her behind the bars for at least a decade if caught. The subsequent investigation led to the discovery of incriminating text messages and a voice message on Adams' phone, with one text reading, "I will bring the pills for sure I’m not sure about the other s***.. [sic]  Dogs can detect that and the dog could be there you never know. Plus this is a felony If [sic] I got busted I could look at 10 years minimum," as stated by Rice County Minnesota.

During the attempted exchange, live surveillance captured the inmate handing something to Adams and vice versa which led to the inmate's detention and Adams' confrontation. A search revealed 101 antidepressant pills and approximately half an ounce of a meth-like substance on Adams. The substance was later confirmed to be methamphetamine.

Rice County Attorney Brian Mortenson praised the collaborative efforts between DOC-OSI and FPD, stating, "Ensuring public safety for Rice County includes the safety of the inmates and staff at MCF-Faribault," as they worked with quick precision to forestall the inflow of drugs into the prison population. A bail hearing for Adams is expected to be conducted on the following Wednesday morning.
