A local gym patron in Modesto had a morning workout turn sour when their $1,000 bicycle was stolen, the Modesto Police Department reported yesterday. In a seemingly swift digital twist, the victim located their stolen ride on OfferUp, an online marketplace, and promptly alerted the authorities.
The police played a part in a covert operation, skirting the bright glare of the internet's anonymity by arranging a "buyer" meet-up with the unsuspecting seller, as detailed in a Facebook post by the Modesto Police Department; this sting culminated in the arrest of the suspect, the recovery of the bicycle, and the bike joyfully reunited with its rightful owner, though the tale didn't end there, officers uncovered a much larger issue upon the suspect’s search. The MPD highlighted the successful collaboration in their operation, praising the "Great teamwork by everyone involved!."
What was initially a simple case of theft multiplied in gravity as officers found a considerable amount of methamphetamine in possession of the suspect, the police reported. The discovery of the narcotic haul prompted additional charges against the individual, now facing accusations of drug transportation, sales, along with the possession of stolen property.
