Hawaii is expecting some rainy weather, especially on Kauai and Niihau, due to a weak weather front. Light and variable winds will continue through midweek, and it will be warm and humid, with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s at lower elevations. A low-pressure system northeast of Oahu is moving southwest and bringing moisture to the islands.
In a statement obtained by the Honolulu National Weather Service, "Moderate precipitation chances will exist over Kauai and Niihau due to the vicinity boundary." With the air mass primarily stable and dry, clear skies should prevail leeward and near coastal areas, while partly cloudy conditions hold sway nurtured at higher elevations. They also anticipate that the Big Island's Kona region will bear the brunt of afternoon showers due to the sea breeze. Steering north of Kauai, the languid boundary will foster light and erratic winds across the islands until the trade winds pick up again towards the end of the week.
Aviators should note that VFR conditions persist across the state, with some potential MVFR ceilings and visibility on the windward side of the Big Island. AIRMET Sierra has been posted across Kauai, indicating temporary mountain obscuration above 2500 feet, expected to last into the morning. Meanwhile, the marine forecast suggests tranquil conditions for mariners with light and variable winds today through Tuesday as the front approaches and stalls out near Kauai, remarked the Honolulu National Weather Service
Ocean enthusiasts can expect bigger waves on the north shore this week, with a moderate north swell peaking from late Tuesday to early Wednesday before fading. Eastern shores will have minimal surf but may see some improvement with the return of trade winds. The south shore will see only small waves, with a slight increase possible by the weekend. There are no current advisories or warnings from the Honolulu Forecast Office.
