
A fatal hit-and-run incident on Interstate 40 near Morganton, North Carolina, is currently under active investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. As reported by WBTV, authorities received reports of the collision at approximately 9:20 a.m., Wednesday morning. The crash site was pinpointed along I-40, adjacent to Exit 104, but at the time, detailed specifics regarding the vehicles or individuals involved remained undisclosed.
Few details were initially made available, and as of late Wednesday morning, troopers have yet to release comprehensive information about the number of injuries, deaths, or arrests associated with the hit-and-run. However, the Highway Patrol did suggest that more information would be forthcoming as the investigation progressed, according to WHKY.
QC News detailed that the victim was Alfredo Hernandez-Son, a 25-year-old resident of Morganton. It was confirmed that the incident occurred westbound near Enola Road (Exit 104) and involved a pedestrian who was struck by a tractor-trailer, which consequently fled the scene.
Master Trooper Christopher Casey of Troop F disclosed that the suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2018 or newer Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer. The vehicle should be noticeable by the missing right front headlight assembly, "The vehicle will have right front bumper and hood damage," stated Casey in a report obtained by QC News.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with information to come forward to support efforts for justice for the victim and his grieving family. Meanwhile, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is carefully reviewing evidence and pursuing leads to bring closure to this incident from September 18.
