A fatal motorcycle accident in central El Paso on Sunday evening claimed the life of one individual, as confirmed by the El Paso Police Department (EPPD). As reported by KVIA, the incident occurred at the intersection of Gateway East and Radford and is currently under investigation by Special Traffic Investigators to determine the cause.
The crash, which took place shortly after 7:00 p.m., resulted in two lanes being blocked at Gateway East and Radford as well as the closure of the Raynolds exit off I-10 East to facilitate the investigation process, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has reported congestion and delays were observed around the scene as traffic was rerouted, the crash happened just after 7:00 p.m, however, EPPD's alert to local media set the time at about 7:20 p.m. but did not specify the exact time of the occurrence, as detailed by KFOX-TV.
The overlap of the crash's location with the Lincoln Park Day festivities, which ended two hours before the accident but still had a considerable number of attendees in the vicinity, according to KTSM. The celebration of Mexican-American culture may have contributed to the high volume of pedestrians and vehicles in the area at the time of the crash.
This incident adds to several accidents in El Paso on the same day, with reports from KTSM indicating that early Sunday morning, four people were injured in a separate crash along I-10 West at Redd, and in the afternoon another collision occurred along Paisano West near Spur 1966 near UTEP, leaving four injured including two with serious injuries, the various accidents have prompted discussions about traffic safety and driver alertness within the community.
