Early this morning, emergency services rushed to the scene of a serious collision between a motorcycle and a sedan in Downtown Pittsburgh. The incident occurred on the corner of Smithfield Street and Sixth Avenue shortly after midnight. According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety blotter, the motorcycle allegedly ran a red light and collided with the sedan's driver's side.
Police from Zone 2 and emergency responders found both the motorcycle's rider and passenger on the ground. To urgently address their injuries, medics had to transport the rider to the hospital in critical condition quickly. The passenger was also taken but with injuries deemed stable. The sedan driver emerged unscathed from the ordeal, not requiring hospitalization.
Authorities closed off the downtown area section that was involved to facilitate a thorough investigation by the Collision Investigation Unit. The streets weren’t reopened until around 2:15 a.m. as investigators worked to piece together the specifics of the crash.
