Early Monday morning, commuters experienced significant delays following a five-vehicle crash on I-35 in north Austin. The Austin Police Department confirmed the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on the northbound lanes near the 12000 block, just south of Tech Ridge Boulevard, CBS Austin reports.
After police and emergency services responded, the northbound traffic was brought to a halt, and vehicles were rerouted to the access road. Despite the roadway being cleared and reopened by 7:23 a.m., as stated by APD, the flow of traffic remained sluggish further into the morning, KXAN noted.
The Austin Fire Department was also at the scene and reported the situation as a vehicle rescue. Austin police have started an investigation into the causes of the collision and advised drivers to expect continuing delays and to consider planning alternate travel routes.
Regarding injuries, CBS Austin has extended inquiries to Austin-Travis County EMS for further comment on the matter. At the time of this report, an update on whether anyone was injured during the incident has yet to be provided.
