A recent multiple-vehicle collision left several people with critical injuries late last weekend. The accident, involving a high-speed Ford F-150 and a Hyundai Elantra among others, took place at the intersection of E. Desert Inn Road and Boulder Highway on September 9 at approximately 10:44 p.m., according to an announcement by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The events unfolded when the Ford F-150, driven by Carlos Adan Alvarez, aged 36, ran a steady red signal at a high rate of speed and collided with the Hyundai Elantra, which was entering the intersection on a steady green light. The impact caused the Hyundai, containing two occupants, to strike multiple stopped vehicles, leading to a series of additional collisions. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police noted that the driver of the Ford showed signs of impairment and was arrested later at the scene.

Both occupants of the Hyundai Elantra, one 31-year-old male driver, and a 23-year-old male passenger, were transported to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition. Others involved in the crash, including the drivers of a Chevrolet Equinox and a Mazda MX-5, suffered less severe injuries and were also taken to Sunrise Hospital for treatment. In total, seven vehicles and their drivers were listed in the police department's collision report.

The ongoing investigation by the Collision Investigation Section of the LVMPD has revealed that surveillance footage and witness statements corroborate the sequence of events that led to the tragic incident. As for the arrested individual, details on his condition or potential charges have not been disclosed.
