The highways near Phoenix have been the scene of two severe crashes, each leaving multiple individuals seriously injured. The first incident, as reported by ABC15, occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 10 near University Drive. Arizona Department of Public Safety officials arrived to find two cars that had been involved in a collision. Two people were subsequently transported to the hospital; one is in critical condition while the other suffers from non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, an earlier incident occurred northeast of Mesa near Saguaro Lake. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a crash around 1:00 A.M. Friday on Bush Highway, as reported by azfamily. There, they discovered that two occupants of a single vehicle had sustained major injuries with life-threatening implications. Investigators have reportedly found signs to suggest potential impairment by alcohol was involved.
The eastbound lanes of I-10 were reduced to one lane following the collision, causing significant traffic delays, but have since reopened. DPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Bush Highway was also shut down in both directions between Usery Pass Road and State Route 87 due to the crash investigation but was reopened by the early morning. The MCSO continues to investigate the incident and the suspicion of DUI at the time of the accident may lead to further legal implications for those involved. Both accidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers present on our roads, particularly concerning the risk of impaired driving.
