A man connected to the 2023 strangulation death of his wife in Nashville was apprehended last week in San Antonio, Texas, and is now awaiting extradition back to Nashville. Donovan Holt, aged 33, following a recent confession to homicide detectives, faces charges for reckless homicide, evidence tampering, and false reporting as per his indictment by a grand jury.
Found unresponsive in their home bathroom by the Cane Ridge Parkway, April Holt, 29, had a plastic bag taped around her neck, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Originally classified as a suicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office in November 2023, it was determined that complications from suffocation led to her tragic demise. Having been transported to Southern Hills Hospital after the incident, she later succumbed to her injuries.
The case took a significant turn when the husband, Donovan Holt, admitted this past July to the MNPD Cold Case Unit detectives that it was he who had strangled April. Previously, the incident had been treated as a suicide until newly surfaced evidence prompted a re-evaluation. Before confessing, several months had passed since the Medical Examiner’s conclusion.
Holt's return to Nashville is imminent, where he will face the judicial process for his alleged involvement in his wife's untimely death. Further details surrounding the nature of his confession and the circumstances that led to the indictment have yet to be disclosed.
