The State Child Care and Development Program (CCDP), a cornerstone for many Nevada families seeking affordable child care, is set to revert to its pre-pandemic income and eligibility requirements at the start of October, affecting new and existing assistance applicants; the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services, which oversees the program, confirmed the end of expanded pandemic-era benefits as a result of the full use of COVID-19 relief funds from both federal and state sources.
Karissa Machado, the Agency Manager for the program, stressed in a statement the significance these funds had in extending services to previously ineligible families, a necessity that enabled them to keep their children in quality child care while they worked or studied, and as these funds have been depleted, the agency is now tasked with the difficult transition back to its standard operations. According to the changes, starting October 1, the program will welcome new applicants falling at or below 41% of the state median income level - for a family of four, this means those making up to $39,371 per year will remain within the threshold for child care subsidies.
It was detailed that households in the midst of their renewal process will preserve their eligibility so long as their income does not surpass 49% of the state median income, which equates to $47,053 per year for a family unit of four, a measure that provides some financial stability, allowing for assistance continuity until the need for certificate renewal arises. Moreover, the CCDP is poised to introduce a flat-rate copayment system determined by household income and size, with sums ranging from nothing up to a cap of $150 each month - shifts which participants will navigate only at the end of their existing certificate's validity.
The forthcoming adjustments include the reinstatement of a waiting list for prospective enrollees once program capacity reaches its peak. To aid in the dissemination of these pivotal changes, the CCDP is set to host an informational webinar on September 24 with sessions at noon and 5:30 p.m., which will provide a forum for questions and guidance - interested parties are encouraged to partake in these briefings by visiting the CCDP's website for additional details.
