During a ribbon-cutting ceremony, residents of the once-neglected area witnessed their community's rebirth, symbolized by 63 new housing units at Woodland Gardens One, reported by WMAR-2 News.
These units include one-, two-, and three-bedroom options, complete with various amenities such as an outdoor garden, playground, fitness center, media, and game room. Woodland Gardens One is not just a place to live. It's a community hub where residents like Shawntay Thompson, who, along with her daughter, has found her first independent home, can thrive in a place of the 42 vacant homes that previously blighted Park Heights Avenue, according to WMAR-2 News report.
Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. (CHAI) announced that their new apartments are designed for people with different incomes and include units for those with disabilities. They expect all the units to be filled by the end of the month, showing strong demand for this kind of housing. CBS News reported that various sources, including a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, with help from Truist funded the project.
"I see myself here raising my daughter for a long time," Thompson stated, per CBS News. This sentiment echoes that of many residents who now view Woodland Gardens One as more than just housing—it is a long-term home.
