Coronado Island in San Diego is gearing up for a fresh maritime culinary experience, with the anticipated opening of Avenue Fish & Oyster Company expected to debut by January 2025. The Orange Avenue space, previously home to The Islander and before that, Leroy's Kitchen & Lounge, is being resurrected by Blue Bridge Hospitality. This company operates several acclaimed dining establishments in the area, such as Stake Chophouse and Little Frenchie. According to San Diego Eater, it is adding this new seafood endeavor right beside its ice cream shop, MooTime Creamery.

The new restaurant's name is a nod to Coronado's past, paying tribute to the now-defunct Fish Company restaurant and Avenue gift shop. Veteran chef Paul Arias, known for his work at A.R. Valentien and the Fishery, will take charge of the kitchen, coupling his expertise with Blue Bridge's corporate chef, Matt Sramek. Together, they plan to serve seafood sourced from local purveyors and oysters from across the globe, complemented by a menu rich with seasonal ingredients. "His menu for the Avenue will be centered around seafood from local vendors, oysters sourced from around the world, and seasonal ingredients," as reported by San Diego Eater.

Before the establishment welcomes patrons, the former Leroy's Kitchen space will see a comprehensive refurbishment. The new design will draw on art nouveau influences and will utilize a tranquil color palette featuring tones of seafoam greens, blues, and lilacs,—intended to create a calm and engaging atmosphere appropriate for a coastal gastronomic destination, according to SanDiegoVille.

Apart from its fresh, sea-themed menu, the establishment aims to attract diners with a standout cocktail program, and an extensive wine list inclined towards white wines and sparkling varieties, perfect accompaniments for the seafood. Avenue Fish & Oyster Company has promised to be a haven for lovers of marine fare, open for weekday lunches, weekend brunches, and dinner every night. "To pair with dishes like crudo, shellfish, and whole fish, there will be a robust cocktail menu along with a wine list focusing on white wines and bubbles," shared San Diego Eater.
