A 54-year-old woman from New Jersey suffered a leg injury while hiking near Queen’s Bath in Princeville last Friday, as reported by the Kauai government website. First respondents from the Hanalei Fire Station were dispatched shortly after the incident was reported at 6:25 p.m.
Firefighters, navigating the rugged terrain of the popular but perilous tourist spot, located the injured visitor approximately five minutes later at a challenging location near Queen's Bath and the visitor, whose day took a turn for the worse due to the unforeseen accident, was unable to walk, necessitating a swift and careful rescue operation.
The rescue team utilized a stokes litter, a type of stretcher used for such emergencies, to transport the woman to a location accessible by American Medical Response personnel, who were standing by to provide the needed advanced medical treatment. According to the press release on the County of Kauai website, she was then taken to Wilcox Medical Center for further care.
By 7 p.m., the Kauai Fire Department personnel had cleared the area, affirming the visitor was in professional hands, and the operation was concluded without further incident.
