Early this morning, a semi-trailer truck became an unlikely train companion in Medina County, near the town of Pearson and just north of Natalia, according to authorities. The truck, which was stalled at the time, was struck by a Union Pacific train at the intersection of CR 5701 and FM 471. No injuries have been reported, as the driver of the semi managed to exit the vehicle before the collision occurred, KSAT detailed in their coverage of the incident.
As the investigation gets underway, local residents can expect the intersection and crossing to be closed for an extended period of time, as KENS 5 reported. It's unclear why the semi was stationary on the tracks as the train, which was carrying boxes on pallets, collided with it.
According to a Facebook post from Medina County ESD1 Fire/EMS, clean-up efforts in the aftermath of the crash will contribute to the prolonged interruption of traffic flow in the area. Authorities are now tasked with not only overseeing the removal of the wrecked truck but also the salvage and safety checks of the train and tracks involved in the incident.
