The North Las Vegas community is coming to terms with a shooting incident that has now been elevated to a homicide investigation after a 50-year-old wheelchair-bound man succumbed to his injuries. The victim, who has not been named, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head late Tuesday inside his apartment on the 1700 block of Yale Street, as detailed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In the wake of the shooting, the North Las Vegas Police Department has arrested Willie Brown Jr., 45, on multiple charges, including attempted murder with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. The victim passed away at University Medical Center on Friday, where he had been listed in critical condition.
The suspect, after allegedly committing the initial crime, reportedly fired at another individual near the 200 block of Judson Street but missed, a narrative of events supported by the FOX5 Las Vegas report. Brown's attempt to evade law enforcement ultimately failed, leading to his apprehension the night of the incident.
Following the victim's death, Brown is now facing revised charges, to be rebooked on open murder charges.
