As Hurricane Francine casts its impending shadow over regions already grappling with the whispers of the wind's fury, the dedication of North Texas Red Cross volunteers stands steadfast. In a display of humanitarian resolve, individuals like Dru Ann West of East Texas, Ronnie Sampsel of Big Country, and Stacy Franklin of Metro West have prepositioned themselves to assist in the response effort—each bringing their unique gifts and seasoned experience to the fore. According to the American Red Cross Greater North Texas, these individuals embody the essence of volunteerism that often remains unseen, yet pulses at the heart of disaster response.
West, having cut her teeth on the disaster response efforts to Hurricane Debbie in North Carolina, takes her talents now to Houston for a second deployment, noting, "My gift is to help. I love helping people, and I get to help others in ways I never imagined with the Red Cross. It is truly a God thing I get to help others get back on their feet", as she recounted to the American Red Cross Greater North Texas, Sampsel, a veteran with over 30 deployments, brings his extensive knowledge once again into play at a time where camaraderie and action intertwine in shelter efforts, he remarked, "I enjoy volunteering for the Red Cross. I enjoy taking care of people. And it's what we all should do. If we don’t take care of each other, we’re not united." Franklin, who has recently joined the ranks of trained shelter volunteers expresses a lifelong calling to aid her fellow humans, "I have wanted to help people since i was a kid, i’ve know it’s my calling in life! Eventually i plan on traveling across the globe to help people in other countries. I want to show love and care for people in need."
Their sentiments, infused with a palpable sense of responsibility and compassion, resonate deeply as communities brace for Hurricane Francine's touch. As the storm approaches, local authorities have been urging residents in its projected path to adhere to safety measures and evacuation protocols rigorously. The North Texas Red Cross, through its volunteers, amplifies this call for vigilance, their very presence a mosaic of the organization's commitment to alleviating suffering wherever the storm's effects are felt.
