An incident unfolding near Woodward Reservoir led to an arrest and the recovery of multiple firearms, including a stolen rifle, as reported by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office after deputies were called to the scene on Sonora Road in Oakdale on Sunday. Robert Brennan, a 59-year-old local, fired at least two shots at an acquaintance's vehicle during a fraught encounter, puncturing the vehicle's tires, yet the occupant managed to escape harm and seek safety, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
The turn of events continued when deputies, already engaged in conversation with the victim along 26-Mile Road, spotted Brennan driving by which led to a high-risk traffic stop and his subsequent unarmed surrender to K9 Robin followed by Brennan admitting to having hidden the gun used in the shooting along the route where K9 Buzz, with his special firearm and ammunition detection training, located a loaded M1 Carbine. It came to the fore that the rifle had been previously reported as stolen in Lodi; Brennan was arrested and booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen firearm, as recounted on Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
Following the incident, a search warrant was executed at Brennan's residence which resulted in the seizure of two rifles and two shotguns that were taken in for evidence. The swift action not only led to Brennan's arrest, but highlighted the efficiency of the local deputies and the essential role played by the K9 unit in swiftly neutralizing potentially dangerous situations and recovering stolen property.
