Fortune has smiled upon an Oakland County man who, unbeknownst to him, entered a second chance lottery drawing and came out $100,000 wealthier. The 63-year-old lottery player, who opted to stay anonymous, won the substantial prize after his non-winning $300,000,000 Extraordinaire tickets were entered into a random drawing on September 10. "I scan my $300,000,000 Extraordinaire tickets to check if I won or not, but I had no idea I was entering a second chance drawing when scanning the non-winners," he told ClickOnDetroit.
Unaware, the man grabbed the opportunity when he was using the Michigan Lottery app to scan his tickets, as mentioned by WOODTV. Speaking to the same outlet, the man expressed his disbelief, saying, “I got a call from the Lottery telling me I’d won $100,000 in the second chance drawing and I said: ‘You’re kidding me, right? It seemed too good to be true. Later that day, I found an email in my spam folder regarding the prize, and I knew it must be real.”
Michigan Lottery officials confirm that nine more second-chance drawings will be conducted, with each slated to award two $100,000 prizes before the deadline on May 2, 2025. Players who are holding non-winning tickets of the $300,000,000 Extraordinaire game can scan their tickets using the Michigan Lottery mobile app for a chance to win. The details of this additional winning chance were outlined by Michigan Lottery Connect.
The winnings, according to the lucky winner, will be put to good use. Alongside plans of saving a portion, he intends to assist others who are in need. This sentiment was echoed when receiving an email confirming his prize, which initially landed in his spam folder, stated with disbelief still clinging to his voice that he never thought “I never imagined I’d be making this type of trip to Lansing!” as he exclaimed in the statement obtained by ClickOnDetroit.
