
A significant fire blazed through a multi-level structure on the 1800 block of East 17th Street in Oakland yesterday evening, commanding the urgent attention of the Oakland Fire Department. As reported by Oakland Fire CA on X, the incident escalated to a 2nd-alarm fire with units working tirelessly to determine the flames' inception point. At that stage, roughly 25 firefighters were engaged in combatting the inferno.

Progressing 50 minutes into the incident, the situation intensified, with active fire reported on every floor, including the attic space. Responding to the progressively dire situation, Incident Command promptly called for reinforcements of two additional engine companies, boosting the personnel count to approximately 50 firefighters on-scene. Despite the severity of the fire, there were no immediate reports of injuries.
In a follow-up post by Oakland Fire CA, the department declared the situation under control by 9:30 PM, with fire-fighting efforts having quelled the raging flames. The cause of the blaze remains under active investigation, and the building’s occupants were reported to have alternative housing arrangements, eliminating the need for the services of the Red Cross.
