An Oceanside home became the scene of a sudden emergency on Friday when a fire broke out, resulting in the displacement of five adults and their three dogs, while a cat was rescued and given medical attention. Crews were alerted to the incident around 5:20 p.m. after a resident noticed smoke billowing from their garage on Olive Drive, as Times of San Diego reported. Firefighters arrived promptly within three minutes of the call.

During their response, 20 personnel were deployed, with the first engine initiating an interior assault and the second unit searching for occupants, according to the Oceanside Fire Department. While all family members and dogs were quickly accounted for, a cat emerged unaccounted for, trapped inside until its eventual rescue during a second sweep of the home. “The first fire engine arrived three minutes later. Within five minutes, three fire engines, an ambulance, and a battalion chief were on scene and springing into action,” the department relayed their swift response.

The rescue efforts extended to the family's cat, which suffered from smoke inhalation but was resuscitated following the department's swift intervention. The Oceanside Fire Department detailed the event in their Facebook post. It took the opportunity to remind residents of the dangers of re-entering a burning building, even with the best intentions to save a pet.

To combat the blaze, which had spread from the garage through to the hallway, bedroom, and attic, firefighters used chainsaws to cut a large opening in the roof to ventilate the smoke and gases, as the Times of San Diego reported. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but an investigator has been assigned to the case. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the time of the fire. The Red Cross supports the displaced residents to attend to their immediate needs following this calamitous event. The Vista Fire Department and Oceanside Police Department also assisted at the scene.
