The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested an off-duty Taliaferro County Sheriff's Office deputy on multiple criminal charges following a domestic violence incident earlier in the month. According to a press release from the GBI, Deputy Joshua Wilson, 29, from Winterville, faces charges that include Home Invasion in the 1st Degree, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.
On September 5, 2024, the GBI responded to a request from the Greene County Sheriff's Office to investigate an altercation that occurred around 5:00 a.m. at a residence on McInteer Circle in Greensboro. Deputy Wilson, who was off-duty, had entered the home, leading to a confrontation. According to initial findings, residents of the home were involved in a physical dispute with him. Wilson eventually surrendered to authorities at the Greene County Sheriff's Office.
Other charges levelled against the off-duty deputy include Simple Battery (Family Violence), Obstructing or Hindering a Person Making an Emergency Telephone Call, and Criminal Damage to Property in the 2nd Degree. This array of charges paints a concerning picture of what transpired in the early morning domestic encounter, placing the law enforcement officer squarely as the perpetrator of multiple serious offenses.
The GBI has noted that the case remains open, with the investigation ongoing and a call for information issued. They have provided a regional investigative office number in Milledgeville at 478-445-4173, an anonymous tip hotline at 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), an online submission form, and the See Something, Send Something mobile app for citizens to share any information they might have. The goal is to build a comprehensive case file that will eventually be turned over to the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
