Oklahoma City residents should prepare for a wet and potentially stormy day, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Oklahoma City. Today's forecast indicates a high probability of showers and thunderstorms, particularly before 1 pm and then possibly intensifying between 1 pm and 4 pm, with ongoing chances into the evening. The National Weather Service predicts an 80% chance of precipitation with possible new rainfall amounts ranging between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, though higher amounts could ensue during thunderstorms.
For those venturing outdoors or with plans to travel, the National Weather Service warns of a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms today through early evening, mainly along the I-44 corridor. Damaging winds and marginally severe hail accompany the threat, along with the potential for localized flooding—especially, in southwest Oklahoma and western north Texas. "The main hazards will be damaging winds, marginally severe hail, and localized flooding," stated the National Weather Service in its hazardous weather outlook.
Tonight's weather will continue to be active with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 7 pm, and cloudy skies holding a low temperature around 58 degrees. Northerly winds will gust as high as 20 mph, further contributing to the unsettled conditions. The outlook for Monday appears milder with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 am, then clouds gradually dispersing to reveal a clearer sky and a high near 72 degrees.
The week ahead looks to bring a mix of clear and cloudy periods, with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 70s. Tuesday mostly sunny skies will prevail with a slight chance of showers later at night, while Wednesday will feature mostly sunny conditions. The National Weather Service has forecast a series of partly cloudy nights throughout the week, interspersed with mostly sunny days that indicate a tranquil respite from the storms. Although the chance of showers and thunderstorms creeps back into the forecast Friday, the likelihood remains a slim 20 percent.
