
A severe single-vehicle accident occurred on the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway at the junction with the westbound 134 Transition in Griffith Park, according to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department. LAFD officials reported that the incident, which was logged at 12:52 am with incident number 0058, involved a rollover that left two individuals trapped within the wreckage, one person ejected from the vehicle, and a fourth who was able to escape without assistance.
Firefighters at the scene employed hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the trapped passengers from the vehicle, subsequently evaluating a total of four individuals impacted by the collision, as per the LAFD. Tragically, one of these individuals was pronounced dead at the scene and, despite the rapid response of first responders, the other three victims were transported to a nearby hospital: one of them is in grave condition, while the remaining two sustained critical injuries.
The names of the victims and further details regarding the cause of the crash have yet to be released pending notification of the next of kin and the progress of the ongoing investigation.
