This incident took place around 1:30 a.m. in an alleyway close to Ohio State University student housing, as officers responded to emergency calls over several hours involving an individual with weapons.
According to ABC6, the sequence of events began the previous evening when Columbus Police were first called to a home on Chittenden Avenue at about 7 p.m., where they encountered a person armed and bleeding with an "edged weapon." A Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) unit was on the scene, but the engagement did not lead to a resolution, and they chose to disengage. A second call at around 10:24 p.m. led the police back to the same address, where the individual, now alone, again refused assistance, and police departed following a phone consultation.
WBNS reports that when officers last returned to the scene in response to another call, they found the individual holding several "edged weapons" in an alley. Assistant Chief LaShanna Potts stated that the officers issued multiple commands for the person to drop the weapons, but to no avail. Consequently, several officers fired their weapons and tased the individual. No police officers were injured in the event.
