An early morning collision yesterday claimed the life of a 41-year-old Orlando man. According to a ClickOrlando report, the crash happened in Zellwood, Florida, as the man drove east on Jones Avenue. The Florida Highway Patrol states that the deceased was operating a pickup truck that veered off the road and collided with a parked tractor-trailer.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m., east of Laughlin Road. It is believed that the driver, who ran off the roadside right, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, a detail that FHP emphasizes in their ongoing investigation. When the left side of his pickup truck struck the left side of the tractor-trailer, he ultimately suffered fatal injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 70-year-old man from Apopka, was unharmed in the collision. According to the troopers' statements, he did not require hospitalization and cooperated with authorities at the scene. WFTV reports that the truck involved in the crash was a 1997 Dodge Ram, and the semi was a 1995 Freightliner.
The victim was transported to Advent Health Apopka, where he was pronounced dead. As the FHP's investigation unfolds, further details about the circumstances leading up to the accident are expected to be released.
