An Osceola County jury has convicted a woman of the heinous crime of stabbing two children, with the State Attorney’s Office confirming the verdict on Monday. According to WFTV, Doris Espinoza-Rodriguez, 40, was found guilty of two counts of attempted second-degree murder with a weapon, aggravated child abuse, and felony battery; the incident, which shocked the community, took place inside a home in Osceola County on Jan. 16, 2023.
The situation escalated when deputies responded to a distress call at the residence, where they found the father of the victims had restrained Espinoza-Rodriguez amidst a scene that necessitated immediate medical intervention for his children and himself after sustaining cuts to his hand, the events of which were detailed by FOX 35 Orlando. The two children were treated for stab wounds, and their father received care as well, while Espinoza-Rodriguez was arrested and subsequently charged with the attempted murder of his two minors.
Within the courtroom, Espinoza-Rodriguez testified, claiming self-defense, suggesting a scenario wherein the father had commanded his children to assault her. However, the jury was unconvinced, returning a guilty verdict after a four-day trial, as WFTV's coverage detailed.
The State Attorney’s Office outlined potential sentences, highlighting the severity of the charges, with felony battery carrying a nearly 20-year sentence, up to 30 years possible for each attempted murder count, and life imprisonment for the aggravated child abuse with a weapon charge.
