Monday's coordinated effort by Hawaiʻi Island police led to the arrest of Jordan Kekolonahekuahiwielawemaikealohaa J Botelho, a 31-year-old man from Papaikou previously sought for multiple offenses. As detailed by the Hawaii Police Department, Botelho was apprehended after authorities received a pivotal public tip about his movements.
Specifically, on the afternoon of Monday, September 9, at 4:30 p.m., the Area I Criminal Investigation Division was tipped off to Botelho's escape in a black Toyota 4Runner. He was eventually stopped and arrested without incident at the intersection of Highway 19 and Mill Road, having been merely a passenger in the vehicle. According to police sources.
Later that evening, after consultation with the County Prosecutor’s Office, Botelho faced numerous charges, including four counts of violating an order for protection, two counts of first-degree burglary, first-degree terroristic threatening, and second-degree criminal tampering, with bail set at $9,500. Despite making his initial court appearance the following day, Botelho remains in custody related to a pending investigation involving firearm possession.
The investigation's net is wider than just the present charges, with police hinting at other incidents potentially linking back to Botelho. These cases are continuing, and charges may be brought forward as they conclude. While Botelho sits behind bars, his past activities are still being pieced together by authorities, given the intricate web of his suspected offenses.
In expressing their gratitude, Hawai’i Island police acknowledged the essential role public tips played in Botelho's capture. Those with further information about Botelho's previous activities are encouraged to contact the police department’s non-emergency line or Detective Corina McLellan directly.
