
A pedestrian fatality occurred in west Charlotte over the weekend when a man was struck by a vehicle while crossing Freedom Drive. The incident took place shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday, as reported by WBTV.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene in the 3000 block of Freedom Drive, near Advance Auto Parts. Upon arrival, officials discovered a pedestrian lying in the road, sustaining severe injuries, and a Toyota Corolla showing front-end damage. The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, WSOC-TV detailed.
While the investigation is ongoing, detectives believe the man was attempting to traverse Freedom Drive when he was hit by the southbound Toyota. The driver, a 68-year-old man, did not report any injuries following the collision. Pending are toxicology results for the deceased to determine if impairment was a factor in the incident, as Queen City News mentions.
Presently, no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
