The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that beginning September 25, Township Road 758, or Jacksonville Road, will be closed between Lyonstown Road and the I-99 interchange, necessitating a detour. This closure is part of a larger initiative to establish a direct connection between Interstates 80 and 99 to reduce traffic congestion and realign local travel routes.
The detour, which redirects traffic through Route 550 and North Wilson Street, is expected to remain in place until the project wraps up in the 2030 construction season, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Local establishments such as Advance Overhead Garage Door and the First Baptist Church of Bellefonte have been listed as accessible via the detour. Additionally, Scott's Roasting, Rooted Farmstead, and others on the list will remain open for business as usual, keeping the local community connected amid the heavy construction.
As for parking near the interchange at I-99, starting Wednesday, on-site options will be off-limits. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has placed message boards to inform and guide motorists about the closure and parking changes. The larger project includes an extensive overhaul with bridges, retaining walls, and other infrastructure improvements. Trumbull Corporation, based in Pittsburgh, PA, is tasked with this $259 million project, supported by substantial federal funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
