Phoenix is getting a taste of the Netherworld this week with a slew of "Beetlejuice" themed festivities to celebrate the release of "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice", the sequel to Tim Burton's cult classic. According to Phoenix New Times, fans can partake in various events across the Valley, ranging from movie screenings of the 1988 original and its new sequel, to themed dinners, trivia nights, art events, and even a Beetlejuice skate gathering.
Prominent among the events is an immersive "ghoulish gastronomy" experience at FOUND:RE Phoenix Hotel, where patrons can feast on a four-course themed dinner, including Sichuan egg-fried rice and brown butter banana fritters. The dinner, which also includes a screening of the first "Beetlejuice" film, is set for Wednesday, September 4, as detailed by Patch. Costumes mirroring the movie's iconic looks are highly encouraged at the event whose tickets are priced at $59 per person.
For fans looking to test their knowledge of the ghostly comedy, Taproom-120 in Gilbert will host a Beetlejuice trivia night on September 4. "Five rounds of “mostly family-friendly” questions" will challenge participants on their trivia skills relating to both the original film and its animated TV spinoff. In a statement obtained by the Phoenix New Times, the excitement will unfold starting 6:30 p.m., at no cost to enter, and with themed prizes for winners.
Roller-skating enthusiasts can enjoy the Beetlejuice Skate Night on September 21 at Great Skate in Glendale. This all-ages event will include costume-wearing, nostalgia-inducing tracks from the film's soundtrack, with an admission price of $13 plus skate rental fees. Also on the agenda, as detailed by Phoenix New Times, is a Puff and Paint event later in the month, where participants can indulge their artistic side with a cannabis twist.
With "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" expected to draw big crowds from September 6 onward at Harkins Theatres and other local venues, it seems Phoenix will be the place to be for fans of the macabre and whimsical alike. The return of Michael Keaton's iconic character is surely generating a buzz, with Phoenix New Times reporting "multiple viewing parties" taking place, offering not just the movie, but also photo ops and themed refreshments, ensuring a lively time for the ghost with the most's loyal following.
