Tensions were high at Pittsburgh Carmalt PreK-8 school this morning as police systematically searched the facility. After reports of an unauthorized male on the premises, the school was swiftly placed on lockdown and then evacuated—a decision guided by law enforcement, WPXI reported.
During the chaotic hours, anxious parents were informed as students and teachers left the school safely under the watchful eyes of patrolling officers. According to TribLIVE, the fear wasn’t just in the school but spread across the Southwest Pennsylvania district, reflecting a troubling pattern of false threats that had caused similar frantic responses in nearby areas the day before.
With the memory of last week's school shooting in Georgia still fresh, wherein a spree of violence claimed the lives of four and wounded nine others, the Pittsburgh Public School district acted with an abundance of caution. Through a network of robocalls and messages, parents were informed of the incident at Carmalt and nudged into a vigil until the district deemed the school safe to return.
