Just before the halfway mark of the afternoon yesterday, sounds of gunfire echoed through the streets of Homewood, prompting an immediate response from Pittsburgh's emergency services. A ShotSpotter alert, picking up the distinct rattling of fifteen rounds, had directed Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS to the 7600 block of Frankstown Avenue. It was there that they found a scene all too common, an adult male shot, lying in the roadway, the aftermath of a violence that persists despite the city's efforts to quell it, as reported by the City of Pittsburgh's official Public Safety Blotter.
The officers at the scene worked quickly to help the injured man. They used a tourniquet to stop the bleeding and keep him stable until medics arrived. After they got him stable, he was taken to a hospital by Medic 1 and was in stable condition.
