Pittsburgh Police are currently investigating a shooting in Homewood South after a female was shot late last night. According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter, the Zone 5 officers were alerted to the incident by a two-round ShotSpotter activation at Brushton Ave. and Bennett St. around 9:51 p.m.
Within moments of the ShotSpotter alert, the injured woman, suffering from a gunshot wound to her side, arrived at Pittsburgh Fire Engine 17 in her vehicle. Firefighters at the scene provided immediate aid before medics transferred her to a hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition. The police have started reviewing video evidence of the shooting and are on the lookout for a small white SVU, which is believed to be involved.
Evidence collection is underway by the Mobile Crime Unit at both the location of the shooting and where the victim's vehicle was found outside Engine 17. The Violent Crime Unit detectives have taken charge of the investigation, delving into the circumstances leading up to the senseless act of violence.
