According to the latest weather reports, Pittsburgh is bracing for a stretch of comfortably warm and uneventfully sunny days ahead. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh paints a picture of dry conditions and above-average temperatures that will characterize the city's weather through the coming weekend. High pressure and ridging aloft are the key features driving this spell of pleasant weather.
With "high confidence dry weather continues as surface high pressure slowly shifts eastward," areas including Pittsburgh are expected to experience clear skies and calm winds, leading to "patchy river valley fog is favored
again late tonight," per the National Weather Service. This fog, a possibly limiting factor, does little to dampen the overall trend towards warmth, with afternoon highs venturing into the 80s for most of the region outside its highest terrain.
The forecast extends into the short term from Thursday to Friday night, sustaining the narrative of warmth and absence of rain. The upper ridge axis will advance over the Great Lakes on Thursday and Friday as dry and warm conditions continue, indicating that the remnants of storm Francine will not intrude but remain well south and west of the area. Despite Francine's distance, there's an expectation for increased high clouds later in the week, promising minimal impacts on temperatures, which are predicted to stay consistently above the norm.
For those concerned about aviation conditions, the outlook is similarly stable. VFR conditions are forecasted to prevail except for overnight light wind and radiational solid cooling. This may promote river valley fog, especially at FKL, where IFR conditions are expected through sunrise. The week ahead promises clear skies, with VFR conditions persisting through much of the week under high pressure.
