Commuters in the Plymouth area should brace themselves for upcoming road closures as the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) embarks on its mission to improve area highways. In a report shared by Plymouth's official website, a stretch of westbound Highway 55 will be inaccessible starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 13, and is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, September 16.
As part of the changes, the segment of westbound Highway 55 lying between the I-494 interchange and Fernbrook Lane N will be off-limits, this closure will facilitate stormwater improvement works critical for the longevity and safety of the road – these modifications are a slice of the expansive Highway 55 pavement enhancement endeavor. For those seeking alternative routes, MnDOT suggests a detour encompassing the use of southbound I-494 to westbound County Road 6 and then northbound on County Road 101 with a detour map available in PDF format for better navigation, as per the City of Plymouth.
Moreover, the ramp from northbound Highway 169 to westbound Highway 55 will also be out of service from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day, September 13. To bypass the blockade, travelers are directed to take northbound Highway 169 to County Road 9, then to southbound Highway 169.
Adding to the mobility maze, MnDOT warns of lane restrictions on W. Medicine Lake Drive, stating that the median turn lanes will be closed from Monday, September 16 through Saturday, September 28, which might present additional complications for local traffic patterns, though the precise impact will vary depending on the time of day and prevailing conditions. In keeping with their commitment to keep the public informed and to mitigate the inconvenience caused, MnDOT encourages the residents and commuters to stay updated on the progress and any potential postponements caused by inclement weather by consulting the project's webpage, where they can also subscribe for email alerts.
